Hiii Outlouders, Em Vernem here 🙋🏾♀️
I’m not sure about you, but Friday’s episode of Out Loud stabbed me in the gut where my 6pm dinner was digesting. I have thoughts the correct answer on the perfect time we should be eating dinner. But first, let’s get into the weekly recommendations.
Weekly Recos 📺 📖 🎧
Here is what Holly, Mia and Jessie recommended this week.
Mia wants you to watch:
Simone Biles Rising on Netflix. It’s a two-part doco-series that follows the life of Olympian and most decorated gymnast in history, Simone Biles. The doco is about her comback after dropping out of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics to focus on her mental health.
She’s now 26-years-old, making her the oldest Olympic gymnast since the 1950s to compete. The series follows her process and what it took for her to make it to the upcoming Games.
Holly wants you to buy:
Bam! Bam! Bam! Lip, Cheek and Eye Tint from Booie Beauty. It’s a new beauty brand by comedian and actress Celeste Barber. It’s $22 and Holly uses it on her cheeks and lips. The reason she likes it is because she has a very expensive product that does the same things but it costs three times that much.
“It’s got a bit of glow to it and the pigment is strong and it lasts.”
Jessie wants you to read:
Atomic Habits by James Clear. She listened to it on Audible over the summer and the reason she’s recommending it now is because we’re in the mid-year slump.
“A lot of people are feeling like their habits have gone out the window. If you feel like you’re a bit disorganised, or your life is a bit chaotic and you need to get on top of it all again, listen to or read this book.
I can honestly say that this book changed my life.”

The exact time you should be eating dinner.
Growing up in an Indian household, I would eat dinner around 8.30pm. This was the norm. In fact, it was early for my parents who were used to eating around 10pm.
Since moving out, I'm ashamed to say that my dinner timetable has drastically changed. Now, I have to eat dinner at 6pm. Holly mentioned that the biggest theory out there is that COVID and lockdowns have pushed for people to eat earlier, making restaurants open early so that they can close early.
When I go out to eat with friends, we usually meet at a restaurant straight after work. It's too much effort finishing work, going home and then going back out again.
And none of us want to stay in the office working until our 7pm booking — No, I want to get outta here ASAP (sorry Mia).
So naturally, our dinners for the past few years have always been around 6pm... And it's ruining my life.
Now, when I go home to have dinner with my parents, I'm starving. I literally sit there counting down the minutes before I hustle everyone out the door for our 7pm booking. Then my parents have the audacity to order drinks first and tell the waiter "We just need a few more minutes with the menu." At this point, I genuinely believe that they hate me as a person.
Not to over-dramatise this situation but I've actually had to train myself to learn how to have dinner at 7pm again. It took months of workshoping techniques, having double dinners and after shedding a few tears, I've worked out that similar to Jessie, 7pm is the perfect dinner time. You can please both camps — Your early dinner friends and your late dinner Indian parents. Cheers!

ICYMI.

We’ve been posing like we’re getting our school photos done… Oh, and we also have some (extremely fun and fufilling) homework for you.
If you haven’t found out what day of the week you are, we’ve created a quiz that does it for you. Be warned, confronting personality traits lie ahead.
If you’re in need for some more Out Loud yapping, we also dropped a bonus episode where Holly, Mia and Jessie spoke to a colour analysis expert to help identify exactly how to dress for your season. Another warning: You will want to re-do your entire wardrobe after. Take a listen!
Don’t share this with anyone else 🤫
A Mia Freedman approved recommendation.
You might remember that last week Jessie recommended hair rollers as an easy way to look like you’ve had a professional blowout. Well, Mia took this reco on board and decided to have a go and… we have some oomph, I repeat, we have some oomph.
If you missed hearing about this roller reco, you can find it in last weeks newsletter or listen to the episode (hair roller chat starts at 31:54).
Yay thanks for the recap. I’d already forgotten about that new skin care line of Celeste. She converted me to MCo beauty and I’ve never gone back.
Great choice, “very dry” to read but ideal book for audio, whilst on the treadmill!
