Hiii Outlouders, Em Vernem here 🙋🏾♀️
Deciding what to wear and how to wear it can be… complicated. Some people (*cough* Mia) are on intimate terms with their personal style. They just seem to know what clothes work for them. Others? Not so much. And yes, I am referring to myself here, thanks for asking.
Fortunately for the more er, ‘style-challenged’ among us, there is a method of pinpointing your personal style which makes the business of getting dressed a whole lot easier — and it involves just three words. Our hosts talked about it on Monday’s episode of Out Loud. You’ll have heard it I’M SURE. But, as usual, I have thoughts. I have feelings. Join me further down as I unpack this genius hack which has given me more time in bed to do wildly valuable things in the morning. For now, let’s kick off with our weekly reccos… ⬇️
Weekly Reccos 📺 📖 🎧
Here’s what our Out Loud hosts suggest you should read and watch.
Holly and Jessie want you to read
Here one moment by Liane Moriarty. She’s one of Australia’s most successful authors writing novels like Big, Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers. She literally sells millions of books, so when a new one comes out — it’s a big deal. Here One Moment has just been released and the tagline is “If you knew the future, would you try to fight fate?”
The premise is simple but brilliant. Imagine you’re on a plane when a woman suddenly stands up and tells you, and each of your fellow travellers, how and when you’re going to die. I know, right? AGOG.
Sidenote: Holly’s guest on MID this coming Tuesday is none other than Liane Moriarty so get your listening ears on!
I read the first chapter, and so did my mum because we were on holidays together and then we just fought over the book for the whole holiday. - Jessie.
It is SO good, it just reads itself, this book. - Holly.
Mia wants you to watch
It Ends With Us is in cinemas now. There’s been a lot of discussion about this movie which we’ve talked about on the podcast and on site. You can read more about it all here.
It’s the story of a woman named Lily Bloom who falls in love with a neurosurgeon, Ryles, and well, I’m sure if you’ve read about all the drama that’s unfolded, you’ll have an understanding of whether this movie is for you or not.
All the backlash has been so mean, and I don't understand it, because she is so good, the movie is so good. - Mia.

Three little words
So, then. The 3-word fashion method. It’s a new trend that encourages you to define your fashion taste in three adjectives — one practical word, one aspirational and one emotional to encapsulate the way you want to show up in the world.
It also makes shopping for clothes and the art of getting dressed in the mornings in the most painless way possible easier. A LOT easier. Because once you have your words which define your personal style, it also helps define how you feel on a daily basis.
I can be in a good mood but if my jeans aren’t quite right and I’m uncomfy in any way then let me tell ya, good-mood-Em is gone in an instant. The replacement ain’t pretty.
At first I was stuck on my three words. I was stuck for a long time. But after much mulling, pondering and workshopping with my friends (thanks y’all), I’ve settled on:
Cool
Might-bump-into-my-ex-casual
Confident
I’m particularly proud of the second one. 💅
My choices sum me up perfectly and yes, they have made my morning routine a much happier one.
As for you, I’ve been obsessed with reading all of your three words in the Outlouders’ Facebook group. Here are some of my faves:
“Nothing to wear” - Danelle.
And I’m sorry, I have to… We have a great podcast to address this exact issue 😂
“Doesn’t need ironing” - Cynthia.
“Track ee daks” - Elizabeth.
“Colour, colour, colour - Cathy.
“Black, Black & Black, I’m a Melbourne girl 😂” - Jodie.
Of course, our hosts also discussed the trend and their three words. Just look at the excitement on Holly’s face — she can’t wait to tell you what hers are (one was picked by Mia BTW but which one? Feel free to guess in the comments).
Our Behind The Scenes pod team have also given us their three words. Let me introduce you to Em, Dolph and Ruth…

🎧 If you want to hear the discussion in full, have a listen below. The segment starts at the 38.48 mark.
Some things you might’ve missed 👀
Like always, if we’ve yapped about it on the podcast, we’ve probably also covered it on the Mamamia website. Get your eyes across these pieces:
A new law means you can finally ignore out-of-hours work calls and emails.
Find out why Molly-Mae and Tommy’s breakup feels extra personal.
Everyone's attacking Blake Lively and Colleen Hoover about trigger warnings. But... they don't work.
HOLLY WAINWRIGHT: 'I woke up one day and even my hair was irritated.' The truth about midlife rage.
From today, the sounds of women's voices are banned in Afghanistan.
What type of school parent are you? 👀
Do you have a child? Do you also like quizzes? Do you not have a child but do like quizzes?
Woah. Unreal. Well, I have some great news for you — You can find out right now. The quiz is super quick, super easy and extremely hilarious (Yes I took the quiz, and not I do not have kids — Sue me).
🐪🦶
If you’re a die hard listener (guilty). You would know that recently Jessie’s camel toe has been brought up more than once. Mia first outed her on the Friday before last when Jessie kindly recommended some UNIQLO tights to us, and then Jessie outed herself on Monday when they were talking about the 3-word fashion method. Now, the camel toe chat has taken on a life of its own in the Outlouders’ Facebook group.
Honestly, I’m not entirely sure about this advice…

thank you for the reminder of what the 3 words were supposed to be, I'd been trying to remember what they were all week!
