We can't stop anxiously avoiding this.
In today's newsy, we discover our attachment styles, recommend your next must-read, eat a multi-flavoured cake, and question Mia's latest look. Enjoy!
Hiii Outlouders, Em Vernem here 🙋🏾♀️
I don’t know about you but I feel personally attacked after Tuesday’s episode in which Mia, Holly and Jessie discuss attachment styles. I could’ve gone my entire life thinking that I’m not the problem and that I just happen to be very unlucky when it comes to love… until I found out that I’m avoidant-dismissive (rude).
According to my report, “displays of emotion, opening up to others, and expressing feelings makes me uncomfortable,” and “I may present a false persona to the world.”
Big yikes.
However, I must admit that being an avoidant does come with a certain level of smugness that other attachment styles don’t have. This TikTok by comedian Madi Hart perfectly encapsulates what an avoidant looks like to the rest of the world.
Now that I know I’m one of them… I can now get on board with it (yes, I will acknowledge how extremely toxic this frame of thinking is).
If you want to find out Mia, Holly and Jessie’s attachment styles and how they break them down, take a listen to Tuesday’s episode (it’s very juicy).
Weekly Reccos 📺 📖 🎧
Here’s what our Out Loud hosts suggest we watch and read this week.
Jessie wants you to watch
Disclaimer on Apple TV. Jessie has taken a break from recommending true crime documentaries and is instead recommending a fictional crime series this week.
This is a fresh show on Apple TV with a few episodes already out. It stars Cate Blanchett, Kevin Kline and Sacha Baron Cohen.
“Blanchett plays a famed documentary journalist who gets sent a book and recognises herself as one of the characters. It reveals a secret she’s been trying to keep hidden.”
Holly wants you to read
By Any Other Name by Jodi Picoult. Hol was very excited about this recco because she interviewed the legendary Jodi Picoult the day before at The Sydney Writers’ Festival. And surprise, surprise, just like every other book of hers, Picoult has given us another literary and historical fiction gift. Not only has both Holly and Jessie read this, but so has every single one of my friends. Before you ask, yep— rave reviews across the board, it’s freshly uploaded to my kindle awaiting my eyes.
“The premise of this book is that Shakespeare was really a woman. A specific woman, who was the first published poet in Britain called Amelia Bassano.”
I (Em) want you to watch
Sweetpea on Binge. If you’re not a fan of Ella Purnell yet then I’m assuming you haven’t watched Yellowjackets or Fallout (please do). I genuinely believe she’s going to be the next “big thing”. In this dark comedy series, she plays Rhiannon Lewis… a young woman who’s had it tough and whose life is filled with people who just walk all over her. So… she starts killing them.
It’s absolutely brilliant storytelling, extremely hilarious and wonderfully chaotic. I binged all six episodes in one sitting— It’s that good.
It feels weird putting in a quote from myself in here but for consistency purposes here I go…
“With every killing she get’s a glow of self-assurance and confidence and people start respecting her more.”

Birthdays and weddings 🎉🎂

If you didn’t already know, our little podcast is made up of a really big team. The Out Loud team consists of producers, editors, creatives, approvers, sound-checkers and more. And all of these extremely talented people bring the good vibes every single day.
To put some faces behind the names you’re constantly hearing, our social media producer Isabelle and our video producer Josh both celebrated their birthdays this week.
Our executive producer Ruth got them this extremely hectic cake that’s made up of multiple different cakes (an indecisive person’s nightmare and sweet-tooth person’s dream).
Each person who went to grab a bit hovered around it for at least five-minutes trying to decide which one to go for. So that leaves me with a question for the group… which cake flavour is the most superior?
Did I miss any top-tier cake contenders? You can yell them at me in the comments.
Oh, and Josh, of course, had to take it to another level by also getting MARRIED to his beautiful partner Charlee in New Zealand. Are these not the most stunning photos you’ve ever seen?

I’m not sure how this happened…
I’m giving Mia Freedman the benefit of the doubt here and saying that she just felt like shaking things up in this fit check…
I think Jessie’s face says what we’re all thinking…
@Holly or Jessie - what's the backpack name?
